About Maré Hieronimus

My name is Maré Hieronimus and I have spent my life submerging myself in a tapestry of creative, healing, movement and performing arts. Born into a family of seekers and artists at Savitria commune in Baltimore, Maryland, I spent my childhood surrounded by mystical teachings, a reverence for the earth, and a love of dance. Early and ongoing experiences with nature and spirit had a profound effect upon me, shaping the course of my life.

Through continued study and experience, I have come to understand the tapestry of work that I do as existing in three parts.

The first part, and center of this tapestry is the fundamental work of embodiment, and the reclamation of the body as sacred in all of its many forms.

The second aspect of this tapestry is the support of the re-emergence of the sacred feminine, the honoring of women’s wisdom, and the healing of the matrilineal lines.

The third aspect is the remembrance of the power of ritual and ceremony to support these deeper experiences of embodiment and feminine awakening. Ritual and ceremony also have the power to mark rite-of-passage and threshold experiences, facilitating embodied transformation.

This work for me has taken many forms: dance and performance, university and studio teaching, private movement healing sessions, the holding of sacred space through ritual and ceremony, and the writing of poetry and prose… but the purpose has remained the same.

The Sacred Body is a tapestry of the ancient traditions and modern techniques that I have submerged myself in, including Yoga, Ayurveda, dance, somatic practice, developmental movement, earth wisdom, shamanic healing, and journeywork. All of these techniques are used in the service of creativity and healing, and the movement towards living an embodied life in harmony with the cycles of nature, and imbued with the power of spirit.

After living and working in Brooklyn, New York for more than 15 years, we have relocated to Asheville, North Caroline by way of New Mexico with the loves of my life, documentary filmmaker Jeremy Frindel (One Track Heart: The Story of Krishna Das, The Doctor From India), and our son.
