RITUAL AND CEREMONY

The Importance of Ritual & Ceremony through the Course of a Life

Cultures that are more connected to the cycles of nature, the land, and the cosmos, understand the importance of ritual and ceremony during pivotal moments in life. In ceremony, one’s resources are gathered, and intentional action begins to psychologically and spiritually prepare the participants to transform. Much of our ritual today is a shadow of what it was, hollow practices that no longer serve to transform. When ritual is alive, it takes one out of the world of the ordinary, and into the extraordinary, into the sublime. Ritual reveals to us the sacred potential of who we are, and what we can be. This is the seed of its profound power and importance.

Throughout time and her story, women have come together to support one another along the path of the sacred feminine. Maiden, Mother and Crone; midwives, herbalists, visionaries and healers, we innately pulse with the Shakti of the Cosmos, we innately sing the songs of creation and birth, and touch death each month through the cycle of the moon. I invite you to sink into the mystery of the profound beauty of womanhood with me, each of us on our own deep journey of healing and reclamation.

The time of the new moon is a powerful time of release and renewal. For this healing women's circle, we align with the energies already at play through the forces of the cosmos. The circle opens with an energetic ceremonial cleansing. We then draw upon practices of embodied meditation and journeywork to dive deeper into the soma of the body, and experience the visionary potential within each of us. The circle closes with an opportunity to share in a safe and sacred space.

To be a part of this sacred community, please visit The Sacred Body on Patreon to Subscribe, or register through Venmo. Please include your email address when registering. On the morning of Ceremony, a link will be sent out with all information.

Mother’s Blessing Ceremonies

For those women who would like to mark the transformation into motherhood as a sacred rite of passage, I offer a Mothers’ blessing ceremony. Drawing from different sacred traditions, and my lifetime of work in dance and ritual, each circle is uniquely created with the mother-to-be. It is my joy to offer these Circle Ceremonies, and to hold a sacred space for women walking through this threshold. There is no other time in a woman's life like it.

We live in a culture that has forgotten how to honor the mother in all of her forms. We only need look at the condition of our Earth planet to understand how this plays out in a larger way.

The shift from maiden to mother should not be thrown away, but should be marked with beauty, tenderness, and many blessings. It is about creating the real environment for each woman to rise up to the call in her own beautiful and unique way. It is also about recognizing and honoring the rarified experience that the woman is passing through in the pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum phases. A woman is primed to do this when she finds herself in the embrace of a circle of deep love and support during this most vulnerable and powerful time.

It is essential that we take the time to honor this incredible passage, and to give space to what it means and what it feels to be in the midst of this singular psychological and spiritual transformation. Above all, it is essential that we learn to care for the mother-to-be. As she births her child, she is rebirthing her own self. When we honor the mother, we honor the baby, and we honor the newborn family as well.

If you are interested in having me facilitate such a circle, please inquire for rates and details.

Birth Closing Ceremonies

The First Year of life of a newborn is a year of the most immense joy and beauty, with moments of profound challenge. The year is filled with the mystery of the unexpected. The birth never goes quite as planned, and often there is little time to close the birth circle and ceremonially honor this incredible rite of passage. The Birth Closing Ceremony marks and celebrates the transformations that occur throughout the first year of life of a newborn, closing the birth circle, and allowing for a fuller movement and integration into family life.
